happy tuesday readers!
i wanted to introduce a new series on absolutely ayurveda called “soulful seva”.
seva means “selfless service” in sanskrit and it embodies all work that is done for others (volunteering, selfless giving, meditation/prayer, etc.) i wanted to use this opportunity to highlight some amazing organizations and people who are making a difference in the lives of their community.
today my husband and i went into the city (of san francisco) to check out an organization that i had heard a lot about called curry without worry. the non-profit was founded in 2006 by shrawan nepali and has served more than 26,000 meals so far, completely free of charge! they cook healthy, organic, vegan nepalese food and create a happy and warm atmosphere.
here is a short video about what they do:
if you want to learn more, here is a more in-depth video describing their process:
everyone who volunteers is so nice and they make you feel good (not embarrassed for being hungry and broke.) there was a large variety of people in line, from the homeless to crust punks to college kids and everyone in between. when weather permits (which sadly it didn’t today), the founder even plays the drum and sings songs from nepal! the food was fantastic. we were served rice, nine bean sprouted bean soup, vegetable curry, puri and tomato and timmur chutney. there wasn’t a speck of food left on our plates!
if you are ever in the san francisco bay area, you should definitely stop by and pay them a visit. when you are needing (or wanting) a free meal, come by the UN plaza any tuesday from 5:30-7:30 and chow down. if you can, i encourage you to volunteer with curry without worry. they are amazing people who bring big smiles and full bellies to many!
